North Swindon MP, Justin Tomlinson has met with representatives from the charity Anthony Nolan at the Parliamentary launch of World Cancer Day 2017.
Anthony Nolan, named after its founder is a charity which exists to promote blood, organ and stem cell donation to provide means to help sufferers from a variety of cancers and blood disorders.
Justin has been supporting the charity since he first worked with them in 2011, where he joined other politicians in pledging to recruit at least ten men each between the ages to 18 and 30 to join the stem cell and bone marrow register.
At the event in Westminster, Justin was able to meet patients who had benefitted from the help that Anthony Nolan provides including the 650,000 individuals on currently on their stem cell donor register and the work they are doing local to increase and diversify their register. In North Swindon there are currently 867 potential lifesavers on the register, which is very positive, although more needs to be done.
Justin Tomlinson MP said: “I have supported Anthony Nolan for some time and it was great to be able to talk more about their important work helping people with cancer and blood disorders. Throughout my time in Parliament I have encouraged local people in North Swindon to match donation numbers for those requiring transplants of any kind, and this is something I will continue to support going forward.”
