studies the exhibition in Parliament
As Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Global Education For All, Justin Tomlinson MP this week joined fellow Parliamentarians at the unveiling of a new exhibition in Parliament.
The exhibition showcases the engagement of over 6,000 UK schools in the Send my Sister to School campaign over the past year.
The campaign focused attention on the 67 million children in the developing world missing out on a primary education, a disproportionate number of whom are girls. In 2000 world leaders promised quality primary education for every child in the world by 2015, but with just 4 years to go there are still 67 million children missing out on even a basic, primary education. Girls are lagging behind boys in access to education; in sub-Saharan Africa more than a quarter of girls are not even attending primary school. Since its launch, school children up and down the country have been sending inspirational ‘Sister’ messages to such girls, a selection of which form part of the exhibition.
The All Party Parliamentary Group on Global Education For All, earlier this year, hosted a breakfast to highlight the need for further investment to see the 2015 goals reached.
Justin Tomlinson MP said “This is a fantastic exhibition showcasing the messages sent by thousands of UK school children to their Sisters across the world who do not have access to a quality primary education. The messages are really inspiring and it is great to see so many children take part.”
