On a visit to Eastlake Park in Tadpole Garden Village, Justin Tomlinson MP, joined national charity Scope and Swindon’s local charities Benjamin’s Smile and Moms on a Mission to discuss their ongoing campaign for more accessible play parks.
As the former Minister of State for Disabled People, Justin Tomlinson introduced a clear Government commitment to improving accessibility for disabled children in play parks as part of the National Strategy for Disabled People, signed off by the Prime Minister.
Justin added, “Inspirational Becky Maddern of Benjamin’s Smile was first to show me the importance of this issue. With simple changes to the designs of new, or refurbished play parks we can make them fully accessible for all children – crucially allowing families to play and enjoy our parks together. I am proud that Swindon is leading the way with Parish Council’s across the town are making changes as parks are refurbished, but we need to go further nationally. Working with Scope, Benjamin’s Smile and Mom’s on a Mission we will continue to press for design codes to be firmed up so this is a given.”
