Justin Tomlinson MP joined GLL officials to view the new facilities and discuss the role GLL plays in Swindon’s community.
Justin was accompanied by work experience student Isabel, 15, of Farringdon Community College. As well as helping with research and casework, Isabel wrote the following article about the visit:
North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson was eager to visit the Swindon Link Centre to see what changes had been made since Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL) recently took over the establishment.
Justin met with GLL officials: John Amatt, Rhys Jones and Jamie Coleshill, to discuss all matters sports and leisure, as well as receiving a tour of the new facilities, including the Better Extreme trampoline park, and the new gym extension.
He was keen to question the officials on various issues that affect Swindon residents, such as their future plans for redeveloping the Health Hydro leisure centre in Swindon, disabled access in their leisure centres and the possibility of partnerships with other sports associations. There were also further talks about the prospect of integrating libraries into our leisure centres, which would stop the current reduction of Library hours.
Justin Tomlinson MP said, “It is important that companies like Greenwich Leisure Limited are always updating their facilities in order to keep people active. I want everyone to have as many opportunities as they can. I can clearly see that Greenwich Leisure Limited have done an good job in renovating Swindon’s leisure centres”.
Justin is happy to host students with an interest in politics for work experience. It is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the role of an MP and how local and national government interact.
