Justin Tomlinson MP has visited Seetec Pluss in Swindon as part of National Employability Week to discuss what further support can be given to those who need a little extra help to find work.
Justin chatted to employees who work closely with local businesses and organisations including the Job Centre to try and find solutions for those who need tailored support to find a job. Crucially this support continues for the first few months of employment to prevent somebody falling out of work.
Justin has worked with Pluss on a number of occasions, particularly when he was the Minister for Disabled People, on initiatives to try and help people into work. In 2016 they worked together on the ground-breaking Disability Confident Reverse Jobs Fair at STEAM in Swindon, which saw over 70 businesses attend to hear more about the incredible amount of talent on offer when hiring somebody with a disability, as well as the financial support for workplaces to make adaptations.
On the visit, Justin also took part in a roundtable event with employers and people looking for work to discuss some of the barriers that they were looking to overcome.
The UK has come close to full employment with the number of unemployed people having fallen over the last 13 years. In Swindon, the number of people in employment has continued to grow across all areas including youth employment.
Justin commented, “It was great to join the Seetec Pluss team at their Focal Point offices. This personalised and tailored support for people finding work is key to our growing employment stats in Swindon.”
