Justin Visits Swindon Manor Indoor Bowls Club

North Swindon MP, Justin Tomlinson, recently visited Swindon Manor Indoor Bowls Club in Cheney Manor Industrial Estate.

The club was born out of the Swindon Oasis Indoor Bowls Club in 2012 when it moved following sale of the Oasis by Swindon Borough Council. Since 2012, the club has continued to thrive in its new home at Cheney Manor, thanks in large part to a refurbishment of a former industrial unit; turning it into a viable venue for bowls complete with four bowls rinks and space for a small snooker club.

Among the things discussed on Justin’s visit were the club’s aspiration to expand the playing space to include at least six rinks to account for the demand of people wanting to join. Aside from members wanting games, the club run numerous leagues for men, women, mixed and novice players

On his visit, Justin was keen to discuss the differences in Indoor Bowls from the clubs he has visited across North Swindon such as North End and Stratton Bowls Clubs. The club is owned and managed day to day by its members, many of who have been associated with the club well before it took up location at Cheney Manor. Justin was particularly pleased to see the work being done to attract new members of all ages to be active.

Justin Tomlinson MP said "It was a real pleasure to visit the Swindon Manor Indoor Bowls Club. As a promoter of sport for all age groups, it was refreshing to see the club taking steps to attract new bowlers to the sport and dispel misconceptions about bowls, encouraging participation of young people and taking pride in being an accessible club for all levels of ability.”
