Justin Visits The Nelson Trust To Learn More About Their Vital Support Services

North Swindon MP and Work & Pensions Minister, Justin Tomlinson, has visited The Nelson Trust to learn more about how the charity works to support people recovering from addiction & abuse.

The Nelson Trust was founded in 1985 near Stroud in Gloucestershire by Roy and Mary Brash. The charity began life as a supportive shared residence for people recovering from alcohol addiction, and over a period of a few short years it developed into a residential treatment centre providing a comprehensive programme of care and support for people looking for recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.

The programme brought together a staff team with a range of specialist therapeutic skills and they developed services which could support people with complex needs including trauma, mental health problems, criminal justice issues and family problems.

Today the Nelson Trust has a national and international reputation as a centre of excellence in the treatment of addiction. The Trust provides treatment for more than 200 people each year from all over Britain and beyond, and together with its work in the local community in Gloucestershire and Wiltshire they work with over a thousand individuals each year.

Justin joined staff at the charity's site in Swindon to discuss the work being done there to provide tailored support. In particular, Justin had the opportunity to find out more about the work the Trust does in Swindon to offer assistance to care leavers & victims of abuse. As part of his Ministerial role, the North Swindon MP is responsible for the Government's work supporting a wide range of vulnerable groups.

Justin Tomlinson MP said: "It was a pleasure to visit The Nelson Trust and meet the inspiring staff & volunteers who are providing essential support to people experiencing a wide range of challenges. From addiction to abuse, the dedicated team at The Nelson Trust are helping to improve lives through their comprehensive programmes. I was also pleased to be able to update the team at the Trust about the work I am leading in Government to support vulnerable groups across society."
