Justin Tomlinson has welcomed the news that Honda have unveiled a £200 million investment that secures the future of its factory in Swindon and thousands of jobs in the town.
The popular Japanese car makers announced that the site would become a global manufacturing hub for the popular Honda civic. Additionally, the news of the investment in the South Marston site will be welcomed by the thousands of staff employed locally in the supply chain.
The news comes in what has been a record week for the UK car industry which has seen more than a £1 billion investment in less than seven days. In recent years, the UK car industry has seen a huge boost, with sales of cars soaring across the UK as a result of economic growth and low interest rates.
Justin Tomlinson said: "I am delighted at the announcement of Honda’s £200 million investment in Swindon, which is part of the £2.2 billion total that Honda have invested in our town. The decision will safeguard jobs and ensure that Swindon becomes a global production hub. Swindon is a town on the up, and this investment builds on the growth that our town has experienced since 2010. Global companies are choosing to invest here, creating more jobs and guaranteeing a secure economic future for our town. This is further proof that we need to stay on the Conservatives’ economic path to recovery when it comes to the General Election in just over a month. Swindon’s future prosperity depends on it."
