Justin Welcomes Mark Draycott To Parliament To Meet Children & Families Minister To Discuss School Sports

North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson has welcomed Mark Draycott, the organiser of the popular Draycott Sports Camps, to Parliament to meet Children & Families Minister Nadhim Zahawi.

The Minister, who has responsibility for school sport policy in Government, was keen to hear directly from Mark & Justin about the positive effect the sports camps were having on the health & wellbeing of young people locally.

The camps, which are hosted at Oakhust Primary School, see young people from across North Swindon enjoying a wide range of sports and learning about the importance of physical activity. This year the camp has enjoyed record numbers participating with every child being active and enthusiastic. Over the past five years, the popularity of the camps has gone from strength to strength and Mark has now launched a separate Draycott Football Academy & is routinely teaching CPR/Emergency Lifesaving Skills to hundreds of young people.

During the meeting Justin, Mark, and the Minister discussed the Government's work to improve access to physical activity for young people through additional funding through the Sugar Tax. Justin has been working with Ministers to shape the spending of this funding, with a focus on increasing access to school sports facilities outside of term time.

Justin Tomlinson MP said: "It was fantastic to welcome Mark to Parliament to meet with the Minister to discuss the success of Draycott Sports Camps. The Minister was keen to learn from Mark's example and will be looking at how we can replicate this successful model nationally. I will continue to support this fantastic community asset, and the Minister, Mark and I will continue to work closely to increase access to physical activity to all young people."
