North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson MP has welcomed Government action to stop the scourge of pension cold-callers.
The Government has announced that under tougher legislation it will now be illegal to cold-call anyone to discuss their pension. The ban will be administered by the Information Comissioner’s Office, and will have a maximum fine of £500,000 if breached.
Justin has previously lobbied Ministers to bring forward tough penalties for pension cold-calling after concerns were raised local residents and campaign groups.
Justin Tomlinson MP said: “Pension fraud has a significant effect on its victims, causing them great distress and facing retirement with a greatly reduced income – it is appalling that someone could rob someone of their security in later life. I very much welcome this ban and hope that it will deter anyone from trying to steal someone else’s hard-earned money”
