Justin Welcomes New Veterans Rail Card

Justin Tomlinson MP has welcomed the news that Military veterans will get cut-price train travel to help boost their job prospects and bring them closer to family and friends.

This week the Government announced it was launching a new Veterans Railcard, which will extend discounted train travel to the more than 830,000 veterans who are not covered by existing discounts.

The announcement forms part of the Government’s Veterans Strategy – an action plan which outlines what the Government is doing to deliver more for veterans, and sets out holistic support for those who have served. The strategy covers areas including: community and relationships, employment and skills, health and wellbeing, finance and debt, housing, and contact with the law.

Justin Tomlinson said: “I am very pleased that the Government is continuing to invest in supporting our veterans. This is a very positive announcement; more affordable travel will boost job prospects for hundreds of thousands or veterans, as well as bringing them closer to family and friends.”
