North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson has welcomed the news that Pfizer is coming to Swindon in a deal which will bring 200 jobs to the town.
US company Thermo Fisher, which has a factory on King Fisher Drive, will become the first company in the UK to make or bottle the Pfizer vaccine in the UK.
Thermo Fisher will be conducting the 'fill and finish' part of the process, putting the vaccines into vials and packaging them for distribution. The site will form one of Pfizer's global contract manufacturing sites to support our ambition to manufacture and supply up to 4 billion doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine across the globe in 2022.
Once preparations are finished next year, which includes two new manufacturing lines and ultra-cold storage, the production will begin in ernest.
Justin Tomlinson said: "This is fantastic news, and I am delighted that it will being 200 jobs to the town. The announcement demonstrates the strength of the life sciences sector in Swindon, and I am proud Swindon will be playing in a role in the global vaccine manufacturing and supply. "
