North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson has welcomed the recent announcement that employment in the UK is at a record high.
Statistics released by the Office of National Statistics show that the UK employment rate stands at a record high of 76.2%. There are currently 32.8m people working in the UK, 309,000 more than a year earlier.
In addition to this, the number of people working full time has also risen to a record high of 20.71m – increasing by 272,000 over the last year, while the number of people working part-time fell by 61,000.
The unemployment rate has remained low at 3.8% - with the unemployment rate for women at a record low of 3.5%.
Wages continue to rise above inflation, with figures showing that there has been an increase of 3.2% for total pay - 1.5% when adjusted for inflation.
Justin Tomlinson said: “This is very encouraging news, which shows that the Conservative’s balanced approach to the economy is paying off. I am also delighted to see more people in full-time work, benefitting from the security of a regular wage. It is vital that the Conservative continue to provide a solid foundation on which to build a strong economic future, and ensure the more people are able to work and provide for their families.”
