North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson opened up his community office to Step Out Swindon for a Walk Leader training session.
Step Out Swindon is a volunteer led scheme which aims to promote the health and wellbeing benefits of walking and socialising within a group. Working alongside Walking for Health – a national organisation – the group runs nine walks across Swindon and has 500 people registered with its schemes.
The group used Justin’s office to train volunteers to lead health walks across Swindon, teaching them how to ensure that the walks are fun and safe.
Justin’s office is available at no charge to community groups and voluntary organisations. The office has been used for a variety of events, such as coffee mornings, training days, AGMs, exhibitions, meetings - and even a children’s play session.
Justin commented, “I am thrilled to see so many people across Swindon have joined this fantastic initiative. It is a really enjoyable way to get active and be sociable.”
