Local MP Justin Tomlinson is working with Swindon Borough Council and Pluss to persuade more Swindon businesses to become Disability Confident.
Disability Confident is a scheme that is designed to help local employers recruit and retain disabled people and people with health conditions for their skills and talent. Justin has been a big supporter of the scheme ever since he spent time as the Minister for Disabled People. He has also run local events to showcase the talent on offer and the benefits of hiring somebody with a disability.
However, there is still more to do which is why he has joined forces with SBC and Pluss, the social enterprise that supports thousands of people with disabilities into employment, to encourage even more employers to become Disability Confident.
Justin Tomlinson MP said: “Hiring somebody with a disability is not a box-ticking exercise. It is something which can benefit a business tremendously. And with money available in grants from the Government to pay for potential adjustments to the workplace such as wheelchair ramps or IT & audio equipment; there is no reason why any business should not benefit from the huge wealth of talent that is out there.”
