Local MP, Justin Tomlinson, was the guest speaker at the recent Business Breakfast hosted by InSwindon.
InSwindon is a Business Improvement District company that is responsible for managing the town centre. They established in Swindon in 2007 and their membership consists of local businesses and high street retailers within the town centre area.
Justin spoke to business representatives at the MECA entertainment venue where the breakfast was held. Speaking about the importance of the town centre, Justin praised retailers and businesses for creating local jobs and pumping money into the local economy.
He also thanked Swindon Borough Council for their pro-active approach to potential developers and their decision to cut car-parking charges for £2 for 4 hours, helping drive up footfall in the town centre, both opposed by out of touch Labour Councillors.
Justin Tomlinson MP said: "I am a Small Business Ambassador for the Conservative Party and in Swindon, town centre businesses provide 11% of the total jobs for local residents. That’s why I’m dedicated towards town centre regeneration, including supporting our existing traders as well as encouraging new ones. Swindon is a town that is on the up. Unemployment has fallen by a whopping 49% and we have recently seen a £35million investment into the Swindon Outlet Village, creating a further 350 jobs and filling 30 new shop units. As we are seeing with the rapidly developing Regent Circus development, as new retailers open in the town, businesses will increase and standards will be driven up. Jobs will also be created and the people of Swindon will be able to sample a greater choice of shops, bars and eateries."
