Local MP Celebrates 30th Anniversary Of Swindon Wildcats

Sports fan and local MP Justin Tomlinson has joined the Mayor of Swindon for a celebratory game at Swindon Wildcats to celebrate the clubs 30th anniversary.

On Sunday night, the current Wildcats team took on the Legends as the 2800 capacity arena at the Link Centre, where the Wildcats have been playing their home games since their inception in 1986. The club are a professional ice hockey team based in Swindon who are members of the English Premier Ice Hockey League (EPIHL).

Justin who is a huge fan of sports, was the Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Recreation on Swindon Borough Council before becoming the MP where he helped the club to improve the facilities.

Justin Tomlinson MP said: “I have been to the Wildcats a number of times now and have always thoroughly enjoyed myself, even in the breaks between the periods, spectators are always well entertained. One of my favourite things about Swindon is that sports fans are well-equipped with a whole range of clubs and activities to support. As with the Speedway, the ice hockey attracts a large number of dedicated fans and proudly Swindon is one of the leading teams in the country.”

Steve Nell, General Manager of the Wildcats commented, "It’s hard to imagine that I’ve been part of the Wildcats for so long starting off as a player. I’ve played and coached the game and then became manager when the body started to give up. The Wildcats has become a real family affair with my own family working alongside me on a day to day basis. Even donning a Wildcats shirt and becoming Player Coach like I did. I’ve had the pleasure of playing with some great teams over the years and it’s only fitting that in our 30th year, we invite back some of those personalities from all over the world who have helped put Swindon Wildcats on the Ice Hockey map."
