Local MP Helps Launch New Fleet Of Buses For Town

Local MP Justin Tomlinson has welcomed the launch of Swindon’s new fleet of buses.

Go Ahead bus company have invested £2 million on 13 new buses for Swindon bus users. The fleet of new buses come equipped with free WIFI and USB ports to charge mobile phones.

One of the biggest talking points of the new Scarborough built buses has been the new social seating area at the back to encourage passengers to talk to each other.

Instead of rows of seats at the back, a circle of seats have been installed. The innovative design has caught the attention of the national media, including The Daily Telegraph, Radio 4 and even Have I Got News For You.

The buses are also highly rated for their impressive environmental credentials. They are a third more energy efficient than the old ones, and pollute less than new diesel cars.

As well as new buses the company has invested £200,000 on a contactless payment system across its fleet, and new bus cleaners at the depot.

Justin Tomlinson MP said: “This investment shows real confidence in Swindon. I am very impressed with the look of the new buses and the innovative approach that Go Ahead have taken. They look very smart, and I look forward to using them when I go to the station on my way to Westminster.”
