Local MP Hosts Fundraiser For Prospect Hospice & Macmillan

Local MP Justin Tomlinson has hosted a Christmas fundraiser for the Prospect Hospice and Macmillan, alongside the Mayor of Highworth.

The event was held on Tuesday evening and has raised just over £400 for both charities, which do incredibly important work both locally and nationally.

The Prospect Hospice is an important organisation geared towards providing specialist support to people with severe or debilitating illnesses and enables them to live out their lives to the fullest potential.

Prospect Hospice locally supports approximately 300,000 people across Swindon, Marlborough and north Wiltshire, and includes the villages of Lechlade and Fairford. In 2015-16 Prospect Hospice cared for and supported almost 6,400 people, as patients, carers and family members, through a range of services developed to bring care, comfort and confidence at life’s most difficult time. Prospect Hospice is a registered charity. Last year it cost more than £7.8M in order to give provision to the number of people being supported, in varying degrees by the Prospect Hospice.

Macmillan Cancer Support works to improve the lives of people across the UK affected by Cancer. Macmillan improves the lives of people locally providing practical, medical and emotional support. With consultation at all stages of treatment, Macmillan understand the important role that care and support provide in this difficult time of a person’s life.

Justin Tomlinson MP said: “It was a lovely evening where people got together to support two fantastic causes. It is important to collectively do all that we can, no matter how big or small the contribution, in order to support charities who do so much to help.”
