As a local patron of the British Heart Foundation, Justin Tomlinson has met with the Wiltshire & Bath Fundraising Manager, Jane Turner, to plan a local event in his constituency office.
The event will be open to the public, allowing people to come and learn CPR, or Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the emergency procedure in which a person presses up and down on the casualty’s chest (chest compressions) and gives them a series of rescue breaths to help save their life when they are in cardiac arrest.
Every year 30,000 people in the UK have an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, but the survival rate is less than 1 in 10. The British Heart Foundation have done fantastic work over the last few years launching campaigns to make sure people are trained to handle these sorts of situations. Justin, who lost his father at an early age to a heart attack, has been a big supporter of these campaigns having most recently shown his support for the campaign to create a Nation of Lifesavers – a nation where everyone knows how to save a life.
Justin Tomlinson MP said: “I am very keen to hold a public event at my office in partnership with the BHF in order to give local residents a chance to learn CPR. As soon as we have confirmed a date, then I will let as many local residents know the details.”
