Local MP Praises Healthwatch Swindon For Successful Dementia Event

Local MP and former Minister for Disabled People Justin Tomlinson has praised Healthwatch Swindon for a successful Dementia event at the Civic offices.

The event was held in partnership with the Dementia Pathway Task Group and consisted of a number of presentations by different speakers for staff and volunteers across Swindon. There were also round table discussions around dementia services including dementia-friendly designs for local buildings.

A number of local organisations were able to have stands at the event, including Swindon Carers, who help a number of people care for loved ones with Dementia.

Healthwatch is an organisation that aims to support people of all ages who use health and social care services. They engage pro-actively with them and the wider community so that they can help to influence the delivery of services and how they are run.

Justin Tomlinson MP said: “It was great to see a number of local organisations who offer support to some of the most vulnerable people in our society, gather together for this event today. By 2025 there is set to be over 1 million people with Dementia in the UK. It is crucial that communities are geared up to helping those with Dementia. This is one of the reasons why my local MP’s office undergoes regular Dementia training.”
