Justin Tomlinson MP joined Stratton Councillor Russell Holland and members of the 1st Stratton St. Margaret Scout Group, Swindon, to put pen to paper as part of this year's National Doodle Day, raising money for UK charity Epilepsy Action.
National Doodle Day aims to get as many people doodling as possible to help support the 600,000 people with epilepsy across the UK. This year, the charity invited people to 'do a doodle, donate a pound' with the chance of a prize for anyone taking part. Members of the 1st Stratton St. Margaret Scout Group, along with their friends and family, called on budding artists in the community to join in the event.
The competition is made up of three categories – seven years and under, 8-16 years and 17 years and over. The winning doodlers will receive up to £150 worth of arts and crafts vouchers and a 3D custom-made figure of their doodle courtesy of Lucy Moose.
Certificates will be awarded in various age categories and all winners will have their work displayed in the doodle Hall of Fame on the National Doodle Day website.
Terry Shipp, Scout Leader at 1st Stratton St. Margaret Scout Group said: "We have had young people in our group who were diagnosed with epilepsy and want to help Epilepsy Action.
"We recently held a sponsored dodgeball competition and raised money during Scout Community Week and think National Doodle Day is a fantastic idea to support a worthy cause. We're hoping that lots of people in the community come down to join us and get doodling!"
Justin Tomlinson MP said "I have done a lot to support local scouts and the national scouting movement and am delighted to come and help the 1st Stratton St Margaret Troop raise money for Epilepsy Action. There are clearly some budding artists amongst the scouts and I am replying on them to fly the flag for Swindon in the competition as I am certain that I will not be winning prizes for my attempt!"
