Justin Tomlinson MP with Paul Dyke, Area Manager, Ladbrokes
Justin Tomlinson MP today visited Ladbrokes in the Clive Parade in Swindon to meet the staff and place a £50 charity bet.
The visit was a real opportunity to see the contribution of Ladbrokes to the community and see the fantastic relationship that the staff build with the customers.
Justin said "Lots of people are very quick to slam our high street bookmakers but they are a part of local communities. Ladbrokes have a very clear policy of care towards their customers, providing the support needed for the few for whom gambling can become an addiction. The staff receive a large amount of training to help them spot the warning signs and safeguards are put in place.
"For the vast majority, a trip to the bookies is a leisure activity. They come down, pop in, maybe spend a tender or so, just like others may choose to spend a tenner going to the cinema."
With it being Grand National season, Justin also placed a £50 charity bet on the race. "I've backed ThreeForTea and Imperial Warlord. Fingers crossed!"
Justin is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Betting and Gaming Group in Parliament. "I will be feeding my thoughts from the visit today back into the Group's next meeting."
