North Swindon MP, Justin Tomlinson, has today welcomed new statistics that show the number of people in work in the south west has increased by more than 40,000 since the general election.
Employment levels have reached their highest since records began, with almost 30 million people working - over 2.5 million of them in the south west. In addition, unemployment in both Swindon and the south west has fallen since the general election as the economy recovers and businesses create new jobs. The private sector has created more than 1.4 million jobs nationally in the past three years and during that period for every one job lost in the public sector, the private sector has created three new jobs.
Justin Tomlinson MP said: "It's great news that the number of people in work in Swindon and the south west has increased since the election. British business is rising to the challenge of creating jobs and we're determined to ensure that all hardworking people benefit from the recovery. There is always more to do, but these figures are hugely encouraging."
