Swindon MPs Justin Tomlinson & Robert Buckland joined Network Rail to view the current works to redouble the Swindon to Kemble track.
By creating the £45m second track for 12 miles on the Swindon to Kemble line it will provide extra capacity, allow more services to be run, offer an important route to south Wales and provide a route diversionary during the electrification of the Great Western main line.
The end of August marks an important period for the project as there is a blockade of the line, allowing major works to take place which wouldn't be possible when a full train service was running.
Justin Tomlinson MP, "We have increased investment into our vital rail network to levels not seen since the Victorian times. This project, the electrification of the Great Western mainline, the renovated Swindon and Reading stations are all tangible projects that will help transform our local train service. Not only will rail users benefit but also our local economy as it will help further attract new businesses to relocate to Swindon."
