Swindon MPs, Justin Tomlinson and Robert Buckland, have joined members of the town's Hindu community to celebrate the Saraswati Puja festival.
Celebrations were held at Swindon's Punjabi Community Centre to worship Saraswati, the goddess of learning, wisdom, knowledge, fine arts, science and technology. The evening consisted of live entertainment, from modern British music to lively Indian dancing, as well as speeches from both Swindon MPs, Justin Tomlinson and Robert Buckland.
Justin commented, "I was thrilled to be invited to come and celebrate the Saraswati Puja Festival with our wonderful Hindu community. Having attended events at the Punjabi Centre before, it yet again proved itself to be a great venue that manages to bring the whole community together. Saraswati was the goddess of science, learning, knowledge and technology; suitable fields that the Hindu community has helped bring to Swindon, and which still contributes to the growth of our town today. It was great to be a part of the celebrations, even though I'm not sure what people would of thought of my attempts at Indian dancing!"
