Swindon MPs, Justin Tomlinson and Robert Buckland, have paid a visit to Innovate UK, the UK's innovation agency based in Swindon.
Sponsored by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, Innovate UK is an executive non-departmental body public body that works with people, companies and partner organisations to find and drive the science and technology innovations that will grow the UK economy.
Since 2007, Innovate UK have invested over £1.5 billion in innovation, matched by a further £1.5 billion in partner and business funding. The company has helped more than 5,000 innovative companies in projects estimated to add £7.5 billion to the UK economy and create 35,000 extra new jobs. Locally, Innovate UK have their head offices based in North Star House and employ 250 staff.
Justin Tomlinson MP said "It really is fantastic to see Swindon as the home of UK innovation. It was really exciting to see some of the fantastic technologies and innovations that have been invested in over the course of the last few years. We even got to see a Hydrogen Fuel Cell powered car - a demonstration by Johnson Matthey Fuel Cells, just one of the companies that Innovate UK has invested in."
