Swindon MPs, Justin Tomlinson and Robert Buckland, have welcomed the news that the most recent data released shows both unemployment and youth unemployment across Swindon have fallen dramatically since the General Election.
New information from the Office for National Statistics confirms that unemployment across the two constituencies which cover Swindon is down by 48.8% since May 2010, while youth unemployment has fallen by around 37.4%. This means that 2,352 people across Swindon have found employment and the security that comes with a regular pay cheque.
Nationally, more than 1.8 million people have found work since May 2010 of which 1.3 million (or 75%) are working full-time. The employment level continues to rise and this month reached a new record of 30.8 million people in work.

Justin Tomlinson MP said: "Thanks to the hard-work of local employers and employees, unemployment has once again fallen in North Swindon. Since May 2010 we have seen a staggering drop of 51.7%, while youth unemployment is down by 49.1%. There is still more to do and I am pleased that our town centre regeneration will take us further; creating jobs and delivering growth across Swindon”.
Robert Buckland MP said: "That unemployment and youth unemployment are down in South Swindon is testament to the hard-work of local residents and our long term economic plan. Unemployment in South Swindon is down by 46.3% while youth unemployment has fallen by 36.7%, showing that people are finding work and the security of a regular wage”.
Employment Minister, Esther McVey MP said: "These latest figures show more and more people with the security of a good job and a regular pay packet. Ed Miliband predicted our plan would lead to the loss of a million jobs - and now can't understand why unemployment is falling. Well, it's simple. The Conservatives are backing small businesses and enterprise with lower jobs taxes and better infrastructure, while reforming welfare so work always pays and across the country, business owners are working hard to build something of their own and create jobs for others.
