This week in Parliament, Justin Tomlinson MP has been meeting and speaking to people affected by Motor Neurone Disease (MND) as part of the national MND awareness week.
MND is a progressive disease that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord. This means messages gradually stop reaching muscles, which leads to weakness and wasting. However, not all symptoms necessarily happen to everyone, and it is unlikely they will all develop at the same time, or in any specific order.
Previously, the Swindon MP has held events related to his role with the Swindon MND association, as well as supported measures to assist people suffering with MND as Minister for Disabled People.
On Wednesday, the MND Association hosted a drop-in event in Parliament for MPs to attend, which highlighted a broad range of issues which affect the MND community.
North Swindon MP, Justin Tomlinson said:
“I have worked closely with the fantastic MND Association on a number of local and national campaigns, including the recent changes to the Special Rules for the Terminally Ill (SRTI) and changes to the disability benefit PIP assessments and awards. I will continue to support them and do all I can to raise awareness.”
