MP Joins Local Firm's Fight Over £42,000 Insurance Row

North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson has stepped in to help a local company whose insurers are refusing to compensate them for a burglary which left them £42,000 out of pocket.

Thamesdown Marketing Services were burgled in October last year, but Aviva won’t pay compensation even though Thamesdown has a comprehensive policy costing £5,600 a year.

Thamesdown’s Managing Director Paul Parkin said, “I think it’s an outrage that a large Insurance Company like Aviva are happy to take your money, but when it comes to the crunch they refuse to pay out. They say we hadn’t complied with all the security measures asked of us, but I am not sure what else we could possibly have done to avoid this situation. Aviva are just hiding behind technicalities in the policy small-print.

“We have never made a major claim in all the time we have been with Aviva, and right now we simply need them to honour the policy and pay compensation.”

Thamesdown approached their local MP Justin Tomlinson to see if there was anything he could do to assist. Justin said, “As soon as I heard about this, I went to meet Paul and wrote to Aviva at the highest levels to try and get this decision overturned.

“Thamesdown is just the sort of local company which needs supporting. They employ 50 people and can ill afford this sort of loss. I hope Aviva will see sense and honour this claim”.

Police are still examining evidence collected at the time of the burglary, and their investigations are continuing.
