Justin Tomlinson MP today welcomed the news that Swindon is one of the top 5 places to invest in the UK.
Both Wiltshire and Swindon rank in the top areas for business investment and growth in a survey published this week.
The study by local government management journal the MJ (municipal journal) and research consultancy Local Futures puts Wiltshire in the top 5 council areas for investment and Swindon in the top 5 cities.
Using socio-economic statistics from across the country, the study aims to build an accurate picture of the attractiveness of England’s regions to investors and for doing business. The MJ Local Futures study examined the performance of 325 local authority areas in England by district and all-purpose councils, in terms of their attractiveness to inward investors and business considering location.
Justin Tomlinson MP said "This is fantatsic news for our Town and will be a real boost to our local economy. You only have to look at the key companies that we have in Swindon - from Intel to Honda - to see that businesses have very high regard for Swindon when in comes to investment."
Paul Johnson, Chair of the Swindon & Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership said: said “We are delighted that we’ve been placed in the top 5 in both categories - for best local authority area and City. The study looked at economic vitality, quality of life and workforce characteristics, all of which we perform strongly in. Creating growth and jobs is the role of the LEP and this study shows what we are achieving.”
