Justin Tomlinson MP was delighted to join representatives of Nationwide at the Olive Tree Café on Friday to hand over a donation worth £1000 which has allowed the social enterprise to buy a brand new industrial oven which has transformed output from the kitchen.
The investment now allows the café - which provides work opportunities for people with mental health conditions – the opportunity to cater for more and more customers, thus raising more funds for the café.
Justin was behind the donation as he submitted an appeal to Nationwide for them to consider the café for funding as part of their corporate social responsibility programme. Nationwide staff then voted overwhelmingly to support the charity which has grown in success since it first opened in 2005.
Justin Tomlinson MP said: “I have long been a supporter of the Olive Tree Café, which provides opportunities and work for people who are/have suffered from a mental health condition. By promoting the café to various businesses I meet with, we have successfully managed to get funding grants for various projects including cookery courses for staff and now the new oven. These projects allow the café to become more commercially successful which then allows them to help more people by providing employment opportunities. A big thank you this time to all of the staff at Nationwide for supporting the café’s fantastic work. To show our appreciation, it was cheesy chips all round!”
