North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson and Trust STFC Chairman John Ward attended Parliament yesterday to support calls to give fans a greater say in the running of sports clubs.
The event, organised by Supporters Direct who campaign for community ownership of clubs, aimed to promote the benefits of community ownership, including greater transparency at boardroom level.
Swindon Town is currently undergoing a takeover, expected to be complete shortly. Trust STFC aims to strengthen the links between the club and the community.
The Commons Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee has already issued a report with a series of recommendations challenging the football world to deliver reforms in 12 months or be forced to act by legislation. The recommendations include governance, designing sports stadia as community assets and strengthening the relationship between supporters' groups and clubs.
Mr Tomlinson said "I am very supportive of the thrust of these principles that seek to enhance and appreciate the role that supporters play in the future of their respective clubs.
"I have always thought it crucial that clubs pro-actively engage with what is effectively the lifeblood of the club.
"Locally we have seen fantastic work by Nick Watkins, the Chief Executive of Swindon Town, to engage supporters. It is a stark contrast to the former dark days which saw the club brought to the brink time and time again, with fans simply frozen out.
"A huge amount of work have also been carried out by supporters volunteering at the lower level non-league clubs, whether that be Highworth or Supermarine, to keep those clubs alive and thriving."
