North Swindon MP Backs Thames Water "Give Someone A Start" Programme

Justin Tomlinson MP recently visited Thames Water at Kembrey Park in Swindon, to meet with local people taking part in the 'Give Someone a Start' programme, which aims to help long-term unemployed people get into work. The programme is run by Thames Water and was first launched in 2012.

Those taking part in the scheme were presented certificates by Justin Tomlinson MP, who also took the time to discuss his role as a Member of Parliament and how many of the skills gained during the ‘Give Someone a Start’ programme are applicable across the employment spectrum.

Last month’s employment figures show that unemployment rates in Swindon are continuing to fall, with schemes operated by businesses like Thames Water making a difference not only in the local jobs market but also to the future opportunities of local residents.

Justin Tomlinson MP said: “This scheme helps local people learn what employers are looking for whilst also providing hands-on experience and practical skills in the workplace. In the past four years that this scheme has been running, Thames Water should be commended for their continuing work to help reduce the number of people not in employment, education or training, and providing key skills that allow people to unlock their potential and take a place in the workforce.”
