North Swindon MP Celebrates Marathon Man Spellar's Generous Charity Donation

North Swindon MP, Justin Tomlinson, joined Members, volunteers and fundraisers to mark the 34th Anniversary of Swindon Stroke Support Group.

The celebrations involved a fish and chip supper at Stratton Methodist Church Hall and were combined with a thank you to fundraisers who have supported the group in many different ways over the past year.

They included Chris Speller, neighbour of Justin Tomlinson, who ran the Virgin London Marathon for the Group in April, raising over £1434. Others included Nick Hill and his eight friends who are cycling to the Isle of Wight and back in June, and representatives from Stage Coach who dressed up as Santa’s last December to raise money for the Group.

Swindon Stroke Support Group, was founded by stroke survivor John Oram in 1981 and aims to prove that there is life after a stroke by offering a friendly environment and social support to survivors and carers through a varied programme of weekly activities, group outings and holidays.

Justin Tomlinson, recently promoted to Minister for Disabled People as well as an avid supporter & fundraiser for the Group said: "It was fantastic to see the members, volunteers and fundraisers gather to celebrate the anniversary of the Stroke Group, and they all deserve significant praise for rallying together to ensure the Groups future security.”

The Group is actively looking to welcome new members to their weekly meetings which are held each Thursday evening from 7pm to 9pm at Stratton Methodist Church Hall on Ermin Street (transport may be possible).  For more information on the Group please call 01793 826962 or visit www.swindonstrokesupportgroup.btck.co.uk
