Justin Tomlinson MP Congratulates Local Care Provider On Outstanding CQC Rating

North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson has welcomed the news that a leading care provider operating across Swindon & the South West, First City Nursing Services, has been awarded the grade of ‘Overall Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

First City have been operating across Swindon, Wiltshire & Gloucestershire areas for over twenty years, delivering specialised homecare and nursing staff to individuals with a vast array of different needs. Additionally, they have added Jobsincare and First City Training to their operations; serving to recruit and train the next generation of health & social care specialists.

Justin met with Stephen Trowbridge, the Operations Manager of First City, and other senior figures at First City House in Cheney Manor to congratulate them on the achievement as well as praising the work of leadership & staff for delivering the result.

The award of ‘Overall Outstanding’ is rare and accounts for approximately 2% of providers in the UK, and is given to providers that are rated outstanding in at least 2 of the 5 parameters that care quality is assessed.

Among other topics discussed at the meeting were plans to work with local authorities, the NHS, local Clinical Commissioning Groups and care providers to secure long term stability for adult social care in the long-term.

Justin Tomlinson MP said: “I’m incredibly impressed by what I’ve seen and heard at First City. The achievement of being rated 'Outstanding Overall' by the CQC is not something that should be taken lightly and it’s great to see the company go from strength to strength in their new home on Cheney Manor Industrial Estate.”

Justin was accompanied on the visit by Matthew Vallender, who has joined the North Swindon MP for Work Experience. He wrote the following account of the visit:

“On Monday 30th July, during my work experience week, I had the opportunity to accompany Justin Tomlinson MP to First City Nursing, in order to congratulate them on their recent outstanding certificate from CQC.

As part of the visit, there was a discussion about plans for the future. Stephen Trowbridge, the Managing Director, raised ideas about future social care funding. Justin also committed to organising a ministerial visit from the Department of Health and Social Care to meet with Stephen and First City Nursing to help address these concerns.

After the meeting, we were given a tour of the building, met other employees who worked for First City Nursing .

It was a pleasure to accompany Justin on this visit, and it taught me a lot, particularly bout the role an MP has not just with their constituents, but also the businesses in their constituency. The meeting with First City Nursing also gave me an insight into the Government’s Social Care policy and the way the industry is approaching the coming years.”
