Justin Tomlinson MP has welcomed the news that Swindon that has come in the top 10 nationally of the prestigious PwC Good Growth for Cities index.
The Demos-PwC GGfC Index measures the performance of the UK’s largest cities against a range of categories including, housing affordability, income inequality, and new this year, business start-ups. This index seeks to measure growth in a more holistic way (rather than a purely economic focus), capturing the human side of the story. PwC worked with members of the general public to select and rank the issues which were most important to them, such as employment and health.
Swindon fared very well on the main index, ranking 9th nationally; while in key measures Swindon performed above the UK average. These include:
· Jobs
· Income
· Health
· New business start-ups
Justin Tomlinson MP said: "This is further proof about how Swindon really is a town on the up. With unemployment down by more than 60%, wages rising faster than inflation and huge new investment locally in the NHS and transport, it's clear that Swindon is the place to do business. I am delighted that we have reached the top 10 of this prestigious list which features many of the countries big cities and we are going to go on climbing the list!"
