North Swindon MP Drops In To Open Door Centre Coffee Morning

North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson has dropped in to the weekly coffee morning held by Gorse Hill’s Open Door Centre.

The Open Door Centre exists to make a positive difference in the lives of adults with learning disabilities, enabling members to achieve their highest potential. They do this by providing a range of activities within a safe, supportive and non-judgemental environment, and members are involved in every level of decision-making about the running of the Centre. Members are encouraged to be independent adults, understanding their rights and choices, in order to become respected, confident, valued members of society.

Activities are suggested by the members, resulting in a varied programme. Improving your reading, Wii Fit, money recognition, a walking group, arts and crafts, Boccia, singing, table tennis, bingo, sewing, cinema trips, kickboxing, and a holiday club are just some of the things offered at the Open Door Centre.

The weekly coffee morning is another way for the charity to make money and provide an opportunity for members. Justin has been a long time supporter of the charity; having raised money and presented the centre with new equipment, allowing the group to reach a greater number of people in the community.

Justin Tomlinson MP said: “Open Door provide incredibly important daily support to adults with learning disabilities who may also have physical disabilities or mental health issues. It has been amazing to see it grow over the years and every time I have visited it just keeps getting better. The coffee morning & breakfast on offer are brilliant so if you're Gorse Hill and feeling peckish, make sure you drop in."
