North Swindon MP, Justin Tomlinson, has encouraged more young people to get involved in politics as he welcomed Swindon College to Parliament.
Students studying Public Service at the College visited Westminster to learn more about the political process, how legislation is passed, and had the opportunity to tour Parliament. Following the tour, the students had the opportunity to meet with Justin and put their questions to him directly.
Justin regularly talks to school and college groups about his work as the Member of Parliament for North Swindon, visiting the students as well as by welcoming them to Parliament. During these talks he encourages the students to contact their MP about the things that concern them, as well as explaining to the groups that it is vital that they vote in elections so that their voice is heard.
Additionally, Justin regularly welcomes students from across the town to shadow him to learn first-hand about the day-to-day life of an MP.
Justin Tomlinson MP said: "It is also a huge pleasure to welcome students from across Swindon to Parliament to learn about how our system works and to see it up close. I remember my first political experience was taking part in a mock election at school. Sadly I lost but it taught me that if you don't take part in the process, and you don't encourage others to do so, then your voice might not be heard. As the MP for North Swindon, I always work to ensure that I represent all of my constituents, regardless of who they voted for, and it was fantastic to talk to Swindon College students about the vital role they will play in the years to come shaping politics in Swindon and nationally!"
