North Swindon MP Helps Oakhurst Primary Celebrate Platinum School Games Award

North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson helped pupils and staff at Oakhurst Primary School celebrate as it became the first school in Swindon to achieve the Platinum School Games Award.

The School Games aims to put competitive sport at the heart of schools and provide opportunities for students to compete & achieve their personal best. The initiative rewards schools for their commitment to the development of competition across the school and in the community, through a number of different awards: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.

Schools must fulfil different criteria to secure the awards including; participation, competition, workforce and clubs.

In order to secure the Platinum Mark, Oakhurst had to consistently maintain a Gold standard, as well as demonstratie the school’s sporting achievement. In recognition of their achievement, Justin presented the school with a certificate.

While at Oakhurst, Justin also took the opportunity to hear more about some of the other initiatives being run at the school, including Same Day Intervention to assist with maths, and the Prince William Award.

Justin Tomlinson MP said: “I am delighted to present this award to Oakhurst Primary School, and I am very impressed with the hard work from pupils and staff to achieve it – they should be very proud. I am passionate about encouraging young people to be more active and participate in sport, it’s great to see Oakhurst leading the way as the first school in Swindon to achieve the platinum award.”
