North Swindon MP Invites Local Employers To Disability Employment Event

Justin Tomlinson MP has extended an invitation to local employers for his upcoming Disability Employment event – Can Cook, Will Cook – which he is hosting alongside Horizons College.

The free event will take place on Friday 15^th June from 11am till 1pm at the Marriott Hotel in Swindon.

Local employers, managers, HR workers and those responsible for employing people, have all been invited to attend in order to showcase the huge wealth of talent available amongst local disabled people, including youngsters from the College.

Horizons College, which is a part of the Uplands Educational Trust, is a specialist facility for young adults aged 16-25 who have severe or profound multiple learning difficulties and / or complex needs. The College teaches students to use local services and to help make a contribution to the local community either through voluntary or paid work. Above all else the College aims to increase opportunities for young adults to gain independence and have plenty of life choices.

The event will involve showcasing employable skills through a brief cooking demonstration, followed by the opportunity to sample the food and chat to students from the College, as well as speak to employment experts who will provide advice on the support and funding that is available to employers, alongside an opportunity to network.

The event is also being sponsored by Pluss, the award winning Social Enterprise that supports thousands of people with disabilities and other disadvantages move into employment each year. Pluss will be on hand to offer advice to employers and will also be demonstrating case studies of the businesses which have already benefited from employing people with disabilities.

Justin Tomlinson MP said: “I am really looking forward to hosting this event and providing a chance for local employers to see the incredible talent available to them. This event is all about breaking down barriers and showcasing the ability, not the disability.”
