North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson has met with the incoming principal of New College, Carole Kitching, at the annual Association of Colleges Parliamentary Reception.
Later this month, Carole will join New College from Lewisham Southwark College where, as Principal and CEO from 2015, she led its impressive turnaround to lift it from ‘inadequate’ Ofsted gradings at two consecutive inspections, to delivering outcomes in line with the best London colleges last year.
The meeting came as Justin attended the Association of Colleges Parliamentary Reception, where the organisation set out its plans to work with Ministers to deliver new Technical Education, and efforts to improve support for mental health among students - issues Justin has raised directly with Ministers previously.
Justin has enjoyed a long & constructive relationship with New College, in particular its outgoing principal Graham Taylor with whom he worked to secure the new £21 million Great Western Academy.
Justin Tomlinson MP said: "I was delighted to meet Carole to discuss the positive role New College plays in the community. Having enjoyed a positive & constructive relationship with the outgoing principal, Graham Taylor, I was keen to meet Carole at the earliest opportunity to discuss her exciting plans to ensure New College remains a leading education provider in Swindon".
