Local MP, Justin Tomlinson was invited to an event in Stratton St Margaret to commemorate 80 years since the death of Canadian Spitfire Pilot, Sergeant Norman Barbeau, who died sadly when his plane crashed in Stratton after colliding with a petrol tanker.
Sergeant Barbeau's heroic actions, resulted in his plane avoiding people on the ground, before crashing on the corner of Ermin Street and Church Street.
Justin was invited along by the Stratton St Margaret Parish Council, who had organised an event to unveil a blue plaque - the first of its kind in Stratton St Margaret, which commemorates the Sergeant in the location he died.
North Swindon MP, Justin Tomlinson said:
"It was an honour to join members of Sergeant Barbeau's family, local residents and Councillors, and to be asked to pay tribute to him today. I'm grateful to Stratton St Margaret Parish Council for organising this ceremony, which was a fitting tribute here on Ermin Street."
