Young carers from Swindon got behind the lens as they took part in a film-making workshop at North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson’s community office.
The workshop had been organised by Swindon Carers Centre to give the young carers a fun break from their caring responsibilities over half-term.
Over the three days, the budding film-makers worked with a professional documentary film maker to learn how to create their own films. The youngsters took on a variety of roles, including: directors, camera crew, sound engineers and editors. By the end of the project they had created a short film about themselves, and their interests and hobbies.
On the final day the film had its grand premiere in front of the young carers’ families, who were all very impressed by the work produced by the youngsters.
Justin Tomlinson MP said: “Young carers have a lot of responsibility placed on them at a very young age and it is vital that they have the opportunity to relax, have fun and just be children. It was great to see their energy and enthusiasm for film-making, and I hope they can build on this experience. Swindon Carers Centre does amazing work with young carers to ensure that they have the opportunity to take part in a variety of fun activities."
