Local MP Justin Tomlinson & Cllr. Emma Faramarzi have supported the annual Swindon College £10 Market Challenge, which he helped to establish in 2013.
The Challenge, a fundraising scheme run by Prospect Hospice, challenges teams to start a business with just £10, with all profits going to support the charity. The business students are split into groups and each given a stall at Blunsdon Market to sell their goods.
Prospect Hospice are the leading providers of end-of-life care in Swindon and Wiltshire. The Hospice was first formed as the Prospect Foundation, to support terminally ill patients at the old Princess Margaret Hospital in Old Town. But as the town grew in the 1980s, so too did the size of the community, to encompass Highworth, Royal Wootton Bassett, Marlborough, Cricklade and many more rural communities across Wiltshire. Most of the Hospices patients are from Swindon and the town offers fantastic support each year in the form of donations and fundraising initiatives.
Justin Tomlinson MP said: “It was great to see the entrepreneurial spirit of local business students as they took part in the £10 market challenge, something which I helped to set up at the Blunsdon market a few years back. As a former business owner, I am passionate about ensuring that young people are provided with opportunities and given the chance to develop their business flare. And the Prospect Hospice provides an exceptionally worthy cause to raise funds for.”
