Justin Tomlinson MP has signed the ‘Pledge for the Environment’ supported by the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, the Woodland Trust, Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace and other organisations.
Meeting with Gary Mantle from the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, Justin discussed the measures to assist a thriving natural world, clean air and water along with communities connected to nature, and a sustainable economy. The ‘Pledge’ calls that following the EU Referendum, the Government will:
- Establish the UK as a world leader on the environment by committing to match or exceed current environmental, wildlife and habitat protections.
- Ensure the UK leads on climate change by publishing robust low carbon investment plans and ratifying the Paris Agreement this year.
- Create a countryside richer in nature by supporting farmers and landowners to deliver environmental benefits alongside a thriving farming sector.
The pledge is an initiative of the following organisations:
- Campaign for Better Transport
- ClientEarth
- Campaign to Protect Rural England
- E3G
- Friends of the Earth
- Green Alliance
- Greenpeave
- NEF
- RSPB
- The Wildlife Trusts
- Woodland Trust
- WWF
- WWT
Justin Tomlinson MP said: “It was fantastic to meet with the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust to discuss the value of the natural environment. Having met with them many times previously, I was very glad to be able to sign the Pledge for the Environment and support a flourishing and secure planet for the wellbeing of local residents in North Swindon.”
