North Swindon MP Welcomes New Funding To Tackle Potholes In Swindon

North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson has welcomed the news that Swindon Borough Council has been awarded over a quarter of million pounds by the Government to fill potholes across the town.

In March, the Transport Secretary Chris Grayling announced £100m was to be given to local authorities to fix potholes and damaged caused by the recent bad weather. This money will help repair almost 2 million potholes as well as help protect the roads from any future severe weather.

This new announcement included £270,244 for essential works in Swindon, which the Council is now spending.

The money is in addition to £75 million in Government funding already given to councils from the Pothole Action Fund this year. A further £46 million was given to highways authorities at the end of last year.

If anyone spots any bad potholes which need fixing, please do contact your local Borough Councillor via: http://ww5.swindon.gov.uk/moderngov/mgMemberIndex.aspx?bcr=1

Justin said: “I am very pleased that the Government has provided this additional money to local authorities. The extra funding will help local authorities deliver safe and effective road networks, and help them be able to quickly tackle potholes as they are reported.”
