Swindon is set to receive more than £1 million to repair damaged roads, news which has been welcomed by local MP Justin Tomlinson.
During last month’s Budget the Chancellor, Philip Hammond, announced a £420 million investment to repair potholes blighting UK roads – of which Swindon will receive £1.24 million.
Next year the South West will receive £161 million from the Local Highways Maintenance and Integrated Transport Block funds, which will be used to ensure that roads are repaired and maintained - as well as investing in small safety, bus priority or walking and cycling schemes.
Justin Tomlinson MP said: “I am delighted that the Government is investing significant resources to resolve the issue of pot holes. Damaged roads don’t only make driving uncomfortable, they can also cause serious damages to cars and delay journeys - which has a major impact on the economy".
