North Swindon MP Working Hard On Consumer Rights

North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson has met with representatives of Which? The consumer watchdog. Which? was established over 58 years ago and is now the largest consumer body in the UK, with over 680,000 members that subscribe to the magazine, and over 335,000 online subscribers. Currently there are 976 registered supporters of Which? In North Swindon.

A big supporter of the organisation himself, Justin met with representatives to discuss how they were helping consumers in Swindon. So far this year, they have been campaigning on issues across the country including scams, rail delays, improve the energy market and various others.

Justin has also been campaigning on consumer issues in Parliament and has asked a number of questions of Ministers on a range of issues including getting the best energy tariffs and introducing smart ticketing for train travel. Questions have included the following.

  • To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what progress has been made in implementing smart ticketing across the rail network; and if he will make a statement.
  • To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what progress has been made on introducing automatic compensation for rail users whose trains arrive late.
  • To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will take steps to inform rail commuters of the protections available to them under the Consumer Rights Act.
  • To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will create a body to ensure public transport users rights are protected.
  • To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, what steps he is taking to reduce domestic energy bills for consumers.
  • To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, what steps he is taking to reward local authorities that invest in renewable energy creation.
