North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson has urged local residents to have their say on the new draft Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP). Swindon Borough Council is seeking residents' views to improve the network for cyclists and walkers across the borough for the next 10 years.
LCWIPs are a strategic approach to identifying cycling and walking improvements required at the local level. They enable a long-term approach to developing local cycling and walking networks, and form a vital part of the Government’s strategy to increase the number of trips made on foot or by cycle.
The Swindon Borough Council LCWIP is an ambitious first step towards transforming active travel in the area, identifying investment of approximately £45m over the next 10 years.
This Plan aims to provide high quality infrastructure to support our transition to a town where walking and cycling are the preferred choice for shorter trips, reducing reliance on cars.
I particularly welcome improved access for Tadpole Garden Village, the New Eastern Villages and Wichelstowe as part of the Borough's plan to be carbon neutral by 2030 and a stronger, greener future.
If residents would like to provide their feedback, they can do so here between now and Monday 27th September. I encourage all residents to have their say on this draft plan.
